On 1st October 2011 the Housing Grants Construction & Regeneration Act was amended, which included changes to the default mechanism of payment to Subcontractors. These changes have a material effect on the rights of a subcontractor to payment of its applications. It is in the interest of all MRCA members to understand the changes that apply for proper management of its cash flow.

During the coming months our Secretary will be offering 2 hour seminars free to members wishing to update and increase their understanding of the revised payment obligations.

Fair Payment Campaign
The MRCA encourages its members to improve payment practices in the metal roofing industry by promoting the NSCC’s Fair Payment Campaign. The Fair Payment Campaign has been running for five years to achieve: -

• Certainty of payment- Subcontractors need to know how much they will be paid & when!
• 30 day payment terms- government terms should be extended to all construction projects
• No retention policy- the NSCC recommends that all specialist contractors operate on a no cash retention basis.
